    How to measure (A-B method)

    1. Set two reference points, A and B, on the deck along one long side of the pool, about as far apart as the pool is long and 2–3 ft back from the edge. Mark them so they can be found again.
    2. Measure A to B and enter it. Note which side the pool is on when you stand at A facing B.
    3. Go around the water's edge marking points about every 2–3 ft (closer on tight curves, at every corner, and where the shape changes). Number them in order.
    4. For each point, measure from A and from B. Keep the tapes level and tight.
    5. Add steps, rock, raised walls, rails, boards and other obstacles as feature points, with a note.
    6. Watch the plot as you go. A point that jumps out of the shape usually means a misread tape or swapped A/B numbers.

Points nearly in line with A and B have weak angles and are less accurate. If several are flagged, move A and B farther from the pool.
